So you want a web page?

You've heard all the hype about the information superhighway and want to get in on it.  Fine, now what?

Getting www.yourname.com involves registering with InterNic for 2 years and paying a $70 fee.  Renewals are $35.  You must have web-hosting arranged before you can register the name.

Here are my prices for web design and hosting:
Web Hosting 24.95/month
paid quarterly
Setup 99.95
InterNic Registration 70.00
Web Page design
and setup
Single Page-99.00
Standard-349.00
Advanced-499.00
Above prices do not include graphics design.
You supply your own photos, etc.  Graphics design
is $100/hour.  Something like the Dino Hamilton
graphic would be $50.
We will do all the paperwork for InterNic
registration.

Please note that you can arrange your own web hosting if you like
and still have me do your page, in fact, I'd actually prefer it.
Paperwork is no fun!  :-)

If you don't want your own domain, can't afford it, whatever, here is how to get a web page of your own for free.  If you are looking at this, I think I can assume you have some sort of internet connection, whether via an online service (AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy, etc), an ISP, or somewhere else (school, work, the library, whatever).  The next question is: Do you have web page space?  If you're using AOL, the answer is yes.  You get 2 meg per screen name, up to 10 meg total.  That's a fair amount.  I use about 14 meg total...that includes Gail's Racing Page, all the photo libraries, and all the sub-sites (Realtime, FF2000, Saturn, JFK Tower, the art galleries, etc.) The Last Minute site uses about 4 meg, so that should give you an idea.  Most ISP's allow 2-5 meg.  If you don't know, look for a FAQ or e-mail someone in the support staff for your provider.

If you don't have any space, there are several entities that will give you free space for your page.  Geocities gives 6 meg in "neighborhoods" that match the theme of your page.  Tripod is another company that has a similar program.  More are appearing every day.

There are disadvantages, however.  Most are advertiser supported, which means you get ads on your page or in a separate browser window.  But, most also have the option of paying both for more space and no ads.  Also, your name can be pretty long and obscure, such as: www.geocities.com/motorcity/speedway/7223/
You get what you pay for.

OK, you've got your space.  Now you need something to put in it.  Check out my tech page, I list a lot of the stuff I used for these pages.  Download and go.

Don't know how to make graphics, don't have the time to learn, or just don't feel you have the creative skills for this (and can't afford $100/hour)? Talk to me.  Maybe we can work something out...race tix/passes (I can always use those!), team shirts... I don't know, an IOU for when you're an F1 driver...

Anyway, even if you just want advice, drop me a line.
